Not Sure Which Tennis Racket to Buy? Try Them All With a Coach

Not Sure Which Tennis Racket to Buy? Try Them All With a Coach

Most racket decisions come down to guesswork.

You watch a few reviews, read some forum threads, maybe pick up a frame in a shop and waggle it around. Then you spend £200 on something and spend the next six months wondering whether you made the right call.

There’s a better way to do it.

Our in-person coached demo puts you on court for a full hour with an LTA qualified coach and up to six rackets. You hit with all of them properly - rallying, feeding, working through your actual shots - while a coach reads how each frame performs under your swing and explains what they’re seeing.

You leave knowing which racket suits your game. Not which one looked best in a review. Which one actually works for you.

Quick Summary

£60 · One hour on court · Up to six rackets · One-to-one with an LTA qualified coach

Book via our enquiry form. We’ll send you a short questionnaire before your session to understand your game and build your shortlist - or suggest frames for you if you’re starting from scratch. Sessions run across our three North London venues in Winchmore Hill, Southgate and Enfield. If you find the right racket on the day, we can arrange stringing and have it ready to collect in store or ship directly to you.

What Is a Coached Racket Demo?

It’s an hour on court, one-to-one with a coach, testing up to six rackets back to back.

Unlike testing a racket in your own time - which is what our borrow-for-a-week and online demo services are designed for - this puts an expert next to you while you hit. They’re watching your swing, reading how each frame responds, and giving you real-time feedback on what they’re seeing.

The difference matters. Most players can feel when something isn’t right but can’t always explain why. A coach can. They’ll tell you why a particular racket is making you late through the ball, why one frame is giving you more on your serve, or why the one you thought you wanted on paper doesn’t quite match how you actually play.

It’s the most thorough way to find a racket - and the fastest route to a confident decision.

Who Is It For?

The coached demo is particularly useful for:

  • Players upgrading from a beginner or intermediate setup who want proper guidance on the next step
  • Players who’ve narrowed it down to two or three options and can’t decide
  • Anyone who’s bought rackets before without demoing them and regretted it
  • Players working on a specific part of their game - more spin, easier pace, better control - who want to test whether a new frame makes a difference
  • Club players investing £150-£300+ in a new racket and wanting to get it right

If you’ve ever bought a racket based on reviews and felt underwhelmed when it arrived, this session is designed to fix that problem permanently.

How It Works

Step 1 - Submit an enquiry

Fill in our enquiry form to register your interest. Because we need to ensure the right demo rackets are available for your session, we don’t run a fixed public schedule - we arrange each session individually.

Step 2 - Complete your pre-session questionnaire

Once we receive your enquiry, we’ll send you a short form asking about your current racket, playing level, what you’re working on and any frames you’re keen to try. If you have a shortlist already, great. If you don’t, we’ll use your answers to suggest options worth testing.

Step 3 - We build your shortlist

Based on your responses, we put together a selection of up to six rackets for your session. These come from our own demo stock - you don’t need to source or own anything.

Step 4 - Come on court

Sessions run at one of our three North London venues - Winchmore Hill, Southgate or Enfield. Your coach will be LTA qualified and familiar with the racket range you’re testing.

You’ll hit with each frame properly - not just a few balls, but enough to get a genuine feel across different shots. The coach feeds, rallies and works through the session with you, giving you feedback as you go.

Step 5 - Make a decision

By the end of the hour, you’ll have a clear sense of which rackets worked and which ones to rule out. Most players leave with a confident first choice.

Step 6 - Order your racket

If you want to buy on the day, we’ll arrange stringing to your spec and have the racket ready to collect from our store - or we can ship it directly to you.

What Does It Cost?

The session is £60 for a full hour.

That covers court time, the coach’s time, and access to our full demo stock. You’re not paying per racket - you can test up to six in the session for that flat fee.

If you go on to purchase a racket with us afterwards, the session will have done exactly what it was designed to do. If you don’t, you’ve still had an hour of one-to-one coaching time and a clear answer on what to buy next.

Where Do Sessions Take Place?

We run sessions across three venues in North London:
  • Winchmore Hill
  • Southgate
  • Enfield

When you submit your enquiry, let us know if you have a venue preference and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.

Why This Is Different to Testing Alone

There’s nothing wrong with borrowing a racket and hitting with it in your own time. We offer that service too, and for plenty of players it’s exactly what they need.

But testing alone has a limitation: you know what you feel, but you don’t always know what it means.

A coach watching you hit with six different rackets back to back picks up things you won’t notice yourself - changes in swing speed, timing, how much effort you’re putting in to generate pace. Over an hour, those observations build into a proper picture of which frame complements your game and which ones work against it.

That’s the difference between knowing a racket felt decent and knowing it’s the right one.
