Serve Mastery - Turn Your Serve Into a Weapon in Four Weeks

The serve is the one shot in tennis you have complete control over. Nobody else influences it. It's just you, the ball and the toss - and yet for most club players it's the most underdeveloped, most frustrating shot in their game.

Our Serve Mastery course changes that. Over four focused weeks, we develop your serve into a genuine weapon - faster, more accurate, more varied, and crucially, more consistent. And we do it without dismantling the serve you already have.

Quick Summary

Serve Mastery · Four-lesson course · One-to-one with an LTA qualified coach · Winchmore Hill, Southgate and Enfield

A focused four-week course dedicated entirely to the serve. You'll learn to accelerate the ball and hit it harder, aim into different parts of the box, and add variety - slice, kick and flat - to turn your serve into a weapon. Taught through sensation rather than dry technique, using our gun turret aiming method and shoebox theory. As with our shot making course, we add new serves to your arsenal rather than rebuilding what you already have.

What the Course Develops

Serve Mastery is about building the serve as a weapon, across four key areas:

Power - how to accelerate the ball and hit it harder

Accuracy - how to aim your serve into different parts of the box

Variety - developing different serves so you're not one-dimensional

Consistency - because a fast serve you can't land is no weapon at all

Fast, powerful, accurate and, most importantly, repeatable. That's the goal.

We Add Serves - We Don't Rebuild Yours

This is central to how the course works, and it's the same principle behind our Complete Shot Making course.

We're not going to change what you've already got. We're not going to strip your serve down to the studs and leave you double-faulting for months while you rebuild. Instead, we add new serves to your weaponry - new sensations, whole new sets of skills to use when you serve - so you keep what works and gain new options on top.

The fear of losing your serve entirely is exactly what stops people working on it. On this course, that's not what happens. You're adding weapons, not gambling the one you have.

Taught Through Sensation

Just like our shot making course, we build serves through sensation rather than dry technical instruction. Each type of serve has its own feel, and we teach you to find it:

A cut sensation for the slice serve

A rip sensation for the kick serve

A slam or smash sensation for the big flat serve

Learn the sensation, and the technique follows naturally around it. This matters more on the serve than almost anywhere else, because of one simple truth: for a serve to be fast, it has to be fluid - and for it to be fluid, it has to be natural.

We're not going to bury you in technical checkpoints and specific positions. An over-coded, mechanical serve is a slow serve. Instead, we engage the movement skills your body already has and the sensations it already understands, and use those to generate as much force as possible. Natural first, powerful as a result.

We've written more about why coaching through sensation works so well:

The Language of Contact

The Gun Turret Aiming Method

Accuracy comes from our gun turret aiming method - a simple, intuitive way of controlling direction so you can develop a serve you can place from anywhere on the court.

Rather than thinking about a dozen technical variables, the gun turret method gives you a clear framework for aiming into different parts of the service box - wide, body, T - so you can start serving with genuine intention rather than just hoping it goes in.

Building a Consistent, Repeatable Serve

Power and placement mean nothing without consistency, so a big part of the course is making your serve genuinely repeatable and accurate.

The toss. So much of a reliable serve comes down to a reliable toss. We use our shoebox theory to develop a toss that's repeatable and accurate - because if the ball goes up in the same place every time, everything after it gets far easier.

The throw. The serve is, at its heart, an overarm throwing action. We develop your overarm throw mechanics, because that's genuinely how the serve works - and building from that natural throwing pattern is what produces effortless racket speed rather than forced, muscled effort.

Alongside these, we draw on a whole range of serve concepts and theories to help you build serves that are fast, powerful and consistent.

Why Four Weeks?

Unlike our six-lesson shot making and decision making courses, Serve Mastery is a focused four-lesson block.

The serve is a single, self-contained shot, which means we can concentrate entirely on it and make real progress in four sessions. It's an intensive, dedicated piece of work on the one shot that's entirely within your control - and four weeks is enough to add genuine new weapons and change how you serve.

How It Fits With Our Other Individual Coaching

Serve Mastery is one of our structured individual courses. Alongside it:

Complete Shot Making - a six-lesson course adding new groundstrokes and shots to your game

Decision Making - a six-lesson course on how and when to use your shots

Serve Mastery - this focused four-week serve course

Weekly direct debit individual lessons - ongoing one-to-one coaching that covers all of the above over time, including serve development

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Serve Mastery cover?

Developing your serve into a weapon - power, accuracy, variety (slice, kick, flat) and consistency - over four focused lessons.

Will it change the serve I already have?

No. We add new serves and sensations to your arsenal rather than rebuilding your existing serve. You keep what works.

How do you teach the different serves?

Through sensation - a cut feel for slice, a rip for kick, a slam for the flat serve - so the technique develops naturally around a feel you can reproduce.

How do I improve my accuracy?

Through our gun turret aiming method, a simple framework for placing your serve wide, at the body or down the T.

What about consistency and the toss?

We use our shoebox theory to build a repeatable, accurate toss, and develop your overarm throw mechanics, which is how the serve generates natural racket speed.

Why is it four weeks and not six?

The serve is a single, self-contained shot, so four focused lessons are enough to make real progress and add genuine new weapons.

Who coaches it?

The same LTA qualified coaches who deliver our whole programme.
